Part 1 General Expectations
In addition to the Plaza School District's Parent Involvement Policy the school must establish its expectations for parental involvement. Plaza School agrees to implement the following statutory requirements:
Plaza School will jointly develop with, parents, distribute to parents of participating children, a School Parental Involvement Policy that the school and parents of participating children agree on.
Plaza School will notify parents about the School Involvement Policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, will distribute this policy to parents in a language the parents can understand.
Plaza School will make the School Parental Involvement Policy available to the local community.
Plaza School will periodically update the School Parental Involvement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
Plaza School will adopt the school's school-parent compact as a component of its School Involvement Policy.
Plaza School agrees to be governed by the following statutory definition of parental involvement, and will carry out programs, activities, and procedures in accordance with this definition: Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring- A. That parents play an integral role in assisting their child's learning; B. That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education at school; C. That parents are full partners in their child's education and are included , as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; D. The carrying out of other activities as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA.
Part II Implementation
1. Plaza School will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint development and joint agreement of its School Parental Involvement Policy and Title 1 program in an organized, ongoing, and timely way under section 1118(b) of the ESEA: The School Site Council will provide input as to the content of the policy and will review and approve the policy at the first meeting of the school year. The policy will be placed on the District's web site and input from the parents will be solicited. Suggestions from the parents will be shared with the School Site Council as part of the review and approval process.
The policy will be sent home to every parent at the beginning of each year and a letter will be attached inviting comments and suggestions for possible changes or additions.
2. Plaza School will take the following actions to distribute to parents of participating children and the local community, the School Parental Involvement Policy: The policy will be sent tot every parent at the beginning of each school year. The policy will be placed on the district's web site.
3. Plaza School will update periodically the School Parental Involvement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents and the school. The School Site Council will review and approve of the policy at the first meeting of each school year.
The policy will be presented to the Plaza School Board at the first meeting after the SSC approval for consultation and input.
4. Plaza School will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the following: That their child's school participates in Title 1
About the requirements of Title 1
Of their right to be involved
A letter will be sent home to the parents of each eligible parent inviting them to a meeting to discuss the Title 1 program. The letter will include a statement explaining the criteria for eligibility and a description of the purpose and services of the program. The letter will also include a space for comments allowing those parents unable to attend a chance to ask questions or express their opinions about the program.
5. Plaza School will hold a flexible number of meetings at varying times, and provide transportation, child care, and/or home visits, paid for with Title 1 funding as long as these services relate to parental involvement.
An annual meeting will be conducted each year in conjunction witht he first meeting of the School Site Council. A second meeting will be held at "Back to School" night. Baby-sitting will be available at both meetings. Parents unable to attend either meeting may request a special meeting at a time mutually agreeable to the school and the parent.
6. Plaza School will provide timely information about Title 1 programs to parents of participating children in a timely manner.
A letter will be sent to each parent of eligible students in the fall of each year describing the services offered through Title 1.
Parent information provided by the State's STAR testing program will be sent to each parent.
Information will be provided about the program on the district's web site.
7. Plaza School will provide to parents of particitpating children a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
Each teacher will discuss these items at "Back to School" night each fall. Information about the student's academic progress will be discussed with the parent at the formal parent-teacher conference held at the end of the first trimester. Parents may request information by phone, letter, or drop-in visits whenever they wish.
8. Plaza School will provide parents of participating children if requested by parents, opportunitites for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
Plaza has an open door policy. Parents may visit the class or talk with the teacher at any time when the teacher is not involved working with the students. Teachers are available before and after school to meet with parents upon request.
9. Plaza School will submit tot he district any parent comments if the school wide plan under section 1114(b)(2) is not satisfactory to parents of participating parents.
Parents will be asked to submit unsatisfactory comments in writing.
The teacher and/or administrator will attempt to address any unsatisfactory comments to the satisfaction of the parent if appropiate or will give a written response if the teacher or school is unable to meet the concerns of the parent.
All letters of concern will be presented to the Board of Trustees at their next regular meeting. All actions taken will also be described whether or not they resolve the concern.
Part III Shared Responsibilites for High Student Academic Achievement
1. Plaza School will build the school's and parent's capacity for strong parental involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership amoung the school, parents, and community to imporve sudent academic achievement through the following activities specifically described below.
The School Site Council will be actively involved in assessing the effectiveness of academic programs and in the planning for any appropriate revisions.
The Plaza Community Club will actively recruit parents to take an active role in the school's activities and to build partnerships between school and home.
Teachers will discuss the student's academic progress with parents and seek their input on how to work more effectively with their children.
Teachers will ask for volunteers to assist them in the academic programs.
2. Plaza School will incorporate the family-school compact as a component of the School Parental Involvement Policy.
3. Plaza School will provide assistance to parents of children served by the school in understanding topics such as the following, by undertaking the actions described in this paragraph--
The State's academic content standards The State's student academic achievement standards The State and local academic assessments including alternate assessments The requirements of Title 1 How to monitor their child's progress How to work with educators Parents will be given information about workshops on parenting or working with students made available by the Glenn County Office of Education and other agencies in the area. Flyers from the state and federal government with information helpful to parents will be given to parents. Parent-teacher conferences will be held concerning all of these items on a formal and informal basis.
