WELCOME BACK
| | The arrival of school came early this year and we were one of the first schools in the state to open. The arrival of students brought an energy that soon permeated the entire campus. Coming from a secondary background by teaching the first ten years at the high school level and being an administrator for the past two years at a middle school, I can state unequivocally that elementary school students are a much happier group returning to school!
Plaza continues to perform at the top of Glenn County Schools. Our Academic Performance Index increased 18 points to reach 861. 70 % off our students were proficient or above in English Language Arts while 74% of them were proficient or above in math.
Our fall sports programs are in full swing and having tremendous success. The older boys' flag football team is undefeated thus far and the junior team is 7-2. Our ladies' volleyball team has dropped only one game but avenged that loss at the "Big game" in Hamilton City on September 25th.
Since arriving I have been struck by the enthusiasm of this staff. They are perhaps the most determined group of teachers I have ever had the good fortune to work with. As I visit classes I find an efficient use of time coupled with an engaging delivery of the curriculum. The results are obvious; students are engaged and taking an active role in their own education. The support staff is also an impressive group of professionals. Their contributions provide an invaluable component to your child's education without which this school's performance would suffer. The success of this school is no accident!
Of course no school can be successful without good students and here at Plaza this is certainly the case. I have found our students to be polite and respectful. They are enthusiastic and demonstrate a sincere desire to be good stewards of their education. Their drive and determination to be the best is the single most significant contributing factor for the success of our school.
I anxiously look forward to the rest of this school year and working closely with both you and your child to ensure that Plaza Elementary School continues to provide them with the best educational opportunities possible.
Sicncerely, Timothy E. Ryan Superintendent Plaza Elementary School District
